Donning and Removing PPE

Don PPE before entering the isolation room: gown first, then mask, then goggles, then gloves. Remove in reverse order inside the doorway: gloves first, goggles, gown, mask last. Gloves go in the red biohazard bin.

Quick tips

  • DON order: gown → mask → goggles → gloves
  • DOFF order: gloves → goggles → gown → mask (reverse of donning)
  • Untie the gown at the NECK first, then the WAIST, then roll it inside-out

Common mistakes

  • Touching the outside of gloves or gown with bare hands during removal
  • Removing the gown before the gloves (contaminates your arms)
  • Reusing PPE between residents
  • Not washing hands after the full doff sequence
