Wash face, hands, underarms, back, and perineal area without exposing the rest of the body. Use a bath blanket to keep the resident covered. Replace the water if it cools or gets soapy. Privacy is auto-failed if you walk away from the curtain.

Quick tips

  • Check water temperature with the inside of your wrist — not your hand
  • Start at the cleanest area (face) and work toward the dirtiest (perineal last)
  • Always wash from front to back during perineal care

  • Exposing more than the area being washed
  • Using the same washcloth for multiple body areas
  • Leaving the resident uncovered between turns
  • Pulling the privacy curtain aside to talk to anyone
